Sofia Gilardini completed an MPhil in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge, after a BEng in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at The University of Edinburgh, which included a year spent at UCLA.
During her MPhil, Sofia worked at Apple Research in Cambridge, developing robotics, ML, and automation pipelines alongside a computer vision algorithms team. At StatML, Sofia is particularly interested in developing generalisable machine learning models that can robustly quantify and manage uncertainty, with the goal of making reliable predictions in real-world environments.
In her spare time, Sofia enjoys swimming, running, and – where possible – horse riding. During her time at Cambridge, she also fell into the inevitable trap of rowing – a habit she expects might follow her to Oxford.
