Spring School

Each year, Imperial College, Oxford University, and Bocconi University come together for the annual EPSRC StatML Summer School (with the exception being a Spring School in 2025). External PhD Statistics and Machine Learning students are also invited to attend when and where spaces are available.

This is an event run across a week, at a beautiful retreat location either in the UK or in Italy and allows students the opportunity to engage with a wider cohort who are all invested in statistics and machine learning.

Each Summer School has topics of focus. In 2025 this is Computational Optimal Transport and Statistical Learning with Missing Values. Guest speakers are invited to share their knowledge from their areas of expertise in line with the themes. This provides students with the opportunity to learn more about a topic they may be interested in but have yet to be exposed to, or having a more concentrated focus on a particular topic within the wider curriculum.

Throughout the week, students can present their research posters, allowing for multiple networking opportunities, both within an academic and social context.

Students thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to take their learnings offsite and really focus for the full week in a collaborative and engaged manner.
