Funded PhD Studentship at Imperial in partnership with Shell starting in October 2025

We are pleased to offer a fully funded PhD studentship in collaboration with Shell, as part of the StatML CDT at Imperial. Starting in October 2025, this project will use large-scale datasets from Shell’s network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to address key technical and behavioural questions using modern statistical and machine learning techniques. From predicting charging rates and efficiencies, changes in battery capacity, to understanding customer behaviours and how these evolve, to market segmentation for different countries, this project offers the opportunity to work on real-world challenges with both academic depth and practical impact. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Shell’s R&D team and spend time at their London office. This is a unique chance to work on a rich, proprietary dataset and contribute to the global transition toward carbon neutrality.

A more detailed project description can be found here.

Application deadline: 20th June 2025
