FAQ

FAQ & Admission resources

Where can I ask my questions?

In November/December the programme will host online Q & A sessions with Directors to discuss applicants’ questions on the admission process at both institutions. Current StatML students will join the directors to cover a breadth of questions from applicants, ranging from programme specifics to student life. Each session will last 45 minutes and prior registration will be required.

For further questions, you can also reach out to us at statmlcdt@stats.ox.ac.uk (Oxford) or statml.io.admissions@imperial.ac.uk (Imperial).

Where are students based?

Every student will have a home institution, depending on where they have received and accepted their offer. Students will receive their degree from their home institution. Training and related activities will take place at both institutions, and students will have a travel budget to cover this travel between institutions.

Who qualifies for Home student status?

As stated on the UKRI website: To be treated as a home student, candidates must meet one of these criteria:

  • be a UK national (meeting residency requirements)
  • have settled status
  • have pre-settled status (meeting residency requirements)
  • have indefinite leave to remain or enter.

If a candidate does not meet one of these criteria, they are treated as an international student.

I am not a native English speaker. How do I know if I need to prove my English proficiency?

Please visit the institution specific webpage regarding fulfilling English tests requirements. Links to the requirements: Imperial, Oxford.

Can I apply to both institutions simultaneously?

Yes. Note that the admission process at both institutions is distinct and requires separate applications. Should you apply to both institutions, you could receive 0, 1 or 2 offers.

Do I need to have secured a supervisor before applying?

No! This is not part of our admission process. You can reach out to academics on our supervisory pool to discuss research and gain insight into StatML if you wish, but there is no advantage in doing so from an admission perspective.
